Paper is light. Light as a feather. Fragile. Wetness, heat, light, insects… paper is very vulnerable and must also be handled carefully. Pastel crayons consist of finely grounded pigment and a binder, often gum arabic. One of the special properties of pastel crayons is their ability to produce a soft, delicate effect. Paper and pastels, two elements that are very fragile and that’s why I appreciate them so much. They capture the ephemeral.
